Fresh spills are usually easy. A quick wipe with a cloth or tissue often removes liquid and most of the residue before it has time to soak in, dry or react with the surface. You’re done in seconds.
Once a spill dries, especially if it’s sugary, oily, coloured or acidic, it bonds more strongly to the material. You need more scrubbing, stronger cleaners and more patience to get rid of it. On some surfaces, it may leave a permanent mark or slight rough patch.
With fabrics, same story: a fresh stain is much easier to treat than one that’s been sitting for hours or days. Acting quickly means less damage and less work.
So even when you’re busy, dealing with a spill “now” is almost always faster than dealing with a stubborn stain “later”.
