When you or a plumber clean drains, covers sometimes get put back loosely or at the wrong angle. A misfitted cover can create a small gap that catches hair, food scraps and debris more easily, causing faster blockages. It can also be a tripping hazard if it’s slightly raised or moves underfoot.
In outdoor areas, poorly fitted covers may let in more leaves and soil, or even small animals. In bathrooms, a loose cover can become sharp at the edges, catching toes or making cleaning more difficult.
Taking an extra minute to seat the cover properly – flush with the surface, not wobbling, aligned with any grooves – prevents future issues. It’s one of those “do it right once” jobs that saves you from repeated annoyance and maintenance later.
