Homes have their own normal background soundtrack – fans, fridges humming, distant street noise. When something new appears – a rattle, a buzz, a drip, a hiss – it’s your cue that something has changed.
A new, regular dripping sound might point to a leak. An odd buzz from a light fitting could signal a loose connection. Gurgling pipes may mean a partially blocked drain. A strange hum from an appliance can indicate it’s working harder than it should.
If you get into the habit of pausing and thinking, “That noise wasn’t here before,” you’re more likely to catch problems at an early stage instead of waiting until something breaks completely. You don’t have to become paranoid, just a bit more observant.
Your ears can sometimes detect trouble long before your eyes see anything.
